Value Delivered
KDC Systems provided electrical and control system expertise to install and automate the North Central Outfall Sewer (NCOS) Air Treatment Facility (ATF) for the City of Los Angeles.
Our solutions help the facility’s treatment system remove odor and particulates from sewer air before it discharges into the atmosphere, and allow remote facility monitoring via a dedicated leased line.
Client Objectives
The client needed comprehensive power distribution, controls, and instrumentation to help optimize operation of their air treatment facility.
Solutions
The NCOS ATF system uses three biotrickling filters, four carbon units, two 150-horsepower foul air fans, a degreaser, a demister, and ventilation fans to remove odor and particulates from sewer air. To power this system, we installed all site power distribution equipment including:
- Incoming service entrance switchboard
- Metering
- Motor control centers
We also wired and interfaced to:
- Uninterruptable power supply equipment
- Standby back-up generator
- Safety systems (including fire alarm and security gate)
Additionally, KDC Systems designed, installed, tested, calibrated, programmed, and commissioned all process control instrumentation panels, including programmable logic controller and human machine interface control hardware.
Finally, we trained the owner’s personnel on correct operation and maintenance of all instrumentation and control system equipment—including function, preventive maintenance, and calibration.
Client Background
The North Central Outfall Sewer Air Treatment Facility serves to eliminate odors from the sanitary sewer system using biological treatment technology.
