Cal State Fullerton Trigeneration Plant, FULLERTON, CA
A campus project to provide power, heating hot water and chilled water, the “Trigeneration Plant” is where KDC worked with various engineering and equipment providers to interface the system to the existing central plant controls. The controls work included an Allen Bradley ControlNet communication interface and various interlocks for plant control of a 4.4 Megawatt Solar Mercury 50 turbine generator, lube oil heat exchanger and other accessories; Modbus communication interface to Seimens PLC for plant control of two 1300 ton Thermax Direct-fired absorption chillers; Allen Bradley PLC for control of two exhaust gas diverters with shared control and monitoring, 12Kv Generator switchgear breaker control and monitoring, multiple heating and cooling water pumps and drives, high and low pressure natural gas controls and monitoring with added seismic controls including overrides, and also two cooling towers with fan, pump and valve controls.
All controls interface via Matrikon OPC server to existing campus Andover control system including integration of Allen Bradley FactoryTalk View graphics into Andover Continuum and WebClient packages. Work included furnishing installation, panel fabrication, instrumentation and control valves for balance of plant along with calibration and commissioning support.
